Maritime Report: April 9th, 2013

It’s been a flurry of “mini announcements” between social media outlets, so let’s roll some of those into one nice little package, shall we?

Lonnie Sommerville competed in his first Southern Super Series race on Saturday night at the Nashville Fairgrounds for Brad Keselowski Racing. Sommerville, driving the #19 Checkered Flag Foundation/A.E. McKay Builders sponsored Super Late Model, qualified in 16th place and was marching to the front when tire and loose fender problems relegated him to the back of the field. On his way back up to the front in the late stages of the race, Sommerville was swept up in a wreck and was credited with 21st.

Speaking of Lonnie Sommerville Racing, Drew Greenlaw Racing has unveiled their paint scheme that they will be running on their Petty International Raceway car in 2013. While you can see the scheme in the featured photo of this story, the team says they will be unveiling something special for their Speedway 660 car.

Brent Roy and “The Camry Kid” Racing Team have announced the return of Sewells Paving, Top Choice Automotive, 105.3FM The Fox, Canadian Tire Gas Bar Fredericton and Oromocto and Paul Dionne Signs to the team for the 2013 season. Their Facebook page also indicates the team will be at the 39th Annual Castrol Radical Speedsport on April 19th to 21st.

The Atlantic Open Wheel tour website has had a facelift. Check it out at AOWTour.ca. While there is a new website, there is no sign of a new schedule. Mike “Sparky” Raeburn is the defending champion of the series in 2013.

Danny Harvey‘s Legend car will have a completely new look to it in 2013. The Lantz driver has gone to satin black with a #4 on the side. Harvey is optimistic for the season after last year’s strong finish, which included a third place run on Finale Friday at Scotia Speedworld.

While Harvey is going for a new look, Phil Barkhouse Jr is going with a familiar look on his Sportsman car. You’ll be able to see a familiar looking yellow #99 on the track this season. A preview of the car, prior to decals, along with last year’s ride, is below. Thanks to Phil for sending in the pictures!

Off camera from these shop shots is the #45 Sportsman car which you will see on track at Scotia Speedworld in 2013. Not letting any secrets out of the bag, it is a sharp looking scheme that may have you doing “double” takes.

The Maritime iRacing League All Star Voting presented by Tim’s Corner Motorsports is still ongoing. Currently, Mike Rhyno leads Kevin Savoury and Martin Landry in the Top Three.

Finally, something not Maritime Racing related, but we’ll put it here because it deserves its due. Ray Alfalla has welcomed iRacing Brasil and Garry Mercer Trucking Inc. on board his NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship ride for the remainder of the season. Alfalla, who is a two time champion of the series, is running for the Tim’s Corner Challenge championship and has already picked up one of the 18 race bonuses at Las Vegas. His car is below.
