(BEDFORD, NS – May 28th, 2018) – Craig MacDonald of Waverly scorched the field en route to his first win of the Maritime League of Legends Tour season Saturday at Scotia Speedworld. MacDonald dominated the R&D Performancenter 50, leading the most laps and holding off all challengers on numerous restarts throughout the 50-lap feature event.

MacDonald, who won at Scotia Speedworld on the Tour last August, took the lead early and held off veteran Danny Harvey (Lantz) for the win at the end of Round One of the Tour.

“That car was a dream to drive,” said MacDonald post race. “Cory Hall did a great job setting up this car. The restarts at the end were a bit stressful but we got the win and we hope to get the championship here in September.”

The top five was seemingly a revolving door as the checkered flag neared. When the music stopped, Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville) found himself in the third place seat on the podium with Shelby Baker (Fall River) and Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Race Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois, NB) completing the top five.

Among the caution flags during the event included two roll overs by Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie contender Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea) and Masters racer Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport). Both drivers emerged uninjured from their separate incidents.

Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) and Harvey were credited with 10-lap heat race victories that set the starting grid for the main feature.

Twenty cars started the R&D Performancenter 50 with Wyatt McCulloch (Stewiacke) not answering the call to the green flag after a mechanical issue during the second practice. The race took 43 minutes to complete.
