(RIVER GLADE, NB – May 18th, 2018) – Alex Sheehan (Oyster Bed Bridge, PE) drove from the rear of the field to win the Westwood Estates Street Stock 40 on Friday night at Petty International Raceway.

Sheehan fought mechanical issues from the onset of practice. The team missed their qualifying heat race and started at the rear of the 13 car field. Sheehan inherited the lead on Lap 24 ahead then leader Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac) spun while navigating lapped traffic and led the field 16 laps to victory.

“We were fighting a leak all day in the car but the boys were able to dial it in with no practice,” said Sheehan after the race. “I don’t know if I would have had anything for Cudmore, I kind of expected for race control to give him the spot back but it is what it is. This track is a pile of fun and we’ll be back.”

Sheehan finished ahead of sophomore driver Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois) and Luc McLaughlin (Geary). Sheehan and McLaughlin both used this event as a tune up to the 2018 Westwood Estates Street Stock Triple Crown Series.

Cudmore rebounded to fourth place in the feature while rookie Brandon Carter (Salisbury).

Street Stock heats were won by Cudmore and McLaughlin.

Patricia Taylor (Salisbury) celebrated her first career feature victory at Petty International Raceway Friday in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division. Taylor held off reigning champion Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) on a restart with just eight laps to go in the 30-lap feature. Mike Weagle (Salisbury) edged out Chantel Ackles (Shubenacadie, NS) in a tight battle for the final podium position. Fifth in the 16 car main feature went to Chris Garnett (Havelock).

Heat races for the Mini Stock division were won by Taylor and Weagle.

Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) and Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS), the two heat race winners on the night, put on a show for the lead in the Leisure Days/CRC RV Bandolero 20-lap feature. Rogers would get the upper hand coming to two laps to go, leading the final pair of circuits en route to the victory. Langille held on for second with Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS), Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) and Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) completing the top five in the 10-car field.

Casie Skidmore (Springhill, NS) took home her first main event victory in her first career start in the Kings County Performance Beginner Four Cylinder division. Skidmore, after winning the heat race over a hard charging Ashley Campbell (Spryfield, NS), held off defending champion Paula Evans (Spryfield, NS) in the 20-lap feature. Completing the podium in the Beginner Four Cylinder class was Amanda Llewellyn.

Complete feature results will be posted, once official, on PettyInternationalRaceway.com.
