Kants, Kennedy and Lowther Start CKRA Season With Wins

The Championship Kart Racing Association (CKRA) began their 10-race season Sunday at East Coast Karting.

On paper, Ethan Lowther and Aaron Kennedy had their divisions covered but both had competition en route to their A-Main victories.

Lowther had a spirited battle with Zack Hitchcock throughout the afternoon but slight contact in Turn Five gave Lowther the advantage in the 12-lap final. Hitchcock couldn’t close the gap and had to settle for second after setting fast time in qualifying. Third belonged to Ben Lawlor while Owen Livingston, son of Prince Edward Island Pro Stock driver Kent Livingston, finished fourth in his first start.

Kennedy paced a tight Final for the Senior class after taking home a number of heat victories. Ben Israel, after moving from Junior, finished second in his first CKRA Senior Final by a half second after 25-laps. Reigning champion Alexander Davison, who took home top honors in qualifying, finished third in the Final. Jared Meade and James Montgomery completed the top five in the eight kart field.

Some of the most exciting racing of the morning came in the Junior class. Kants would walk out of the first meet with the quick time in the qualifying round, the checkered flag in the final two heat races on the afternoon and the victory in the final.

Kants started on the pole position for the 11 kart, 20-lap Final but Issac Teed would hop out to the quick lead. Kants worked on Teed for a number of laps before making the winning move around the halfway point. Teed held on for second with William Lowther in third. Lowther, along with fourth place (and reigning Junior champion) Kelsey Hann would take heat race victories. Ryan Musson was fifth in the Final.

Official results can be found on the CKRA Website (CKRANB.com) or on their Facebook page (@ChampionshipKartRacingAssociation).
