Maritime Street Stock Showdown Returns to Oyster Bed Speedway for ’18

Charlottetown, PE. BPMS is pleased to announce that the second running of the Discover KIA Maritime Street Stock Showdown will take place at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday, June 23^rd. The rain date is Sunday.

The inaugural event held in 2017 was won by PEI Driver of the #27 car Nick Chiasson. Twenty nine cars from across the Maritimes competed in the 100 lap showdown. For his win, Chiasson took home a cheque for $1500.00.

BPMS Owner and Race Promoter, Tom Nicholls stated “I am thrilled to be able to host this event at Oyster Bed Speedway in co-operation with Track Ownership and to have Kent and his staff from Discover KIA return as the Title Sponsor. We are hoping for even more cars to come to the race this year”. He noted ”The street stock class is very popular and we are seeing more big lap events each year and the importance and trust in working together with all tracks is what makes it work for this event on PEI.”

Discover KIA General Manager/Dealer Partner Kent MacLeod stated “We were so encouraged by the wonderful reception from the racing community to the inaugural Maritime Street Stock Showdown that we just had to make sure we returned for year two. Our entire team is tremendously excited for, and quite honoured by the opportunity to be a part of another incredible event this June at Oyster Bed Speedway!”

This year Nicholls and OBS Management want to add the Bandoleros to the race evening. He noted that this group will need to contact OBS management to be placed on the race card. “ We are welcoming the Bandoleros to come and be a part of this night. It is a good fit as it is a family driven event where the track is offering free admission to all kids under 15 years old. Hopefully the younger kids will want to become racers after watching the Bandoleros”.

Work already started on this year’s edition of the race. A few items of note have changed “We are not capping the event and we are leaving the date for registering open to one week prior to the event or June 16th. However as details get firmed up there will be certain benefits to those that register early“ commented Nicholls.

Efforts are underway for the arrangement of driver’s benefits, the selling of lap sponsorships and determining the total purse payout. The winner will receive $1,500.00.
