“The Sharp Shooter Experience” Invites Public to Get in the Driver’s Seat at 660

Thanks to a number of teams at Speedway 660, you can put yourself in the driver’s seat on Saturday!

The Four Cylinder Sharp Shooter Experience on Saturday, October 21st will be an information session for those interested in racing at Speedway 660 and will offer interested parties a chance to go for a drive in a Sharp Shooter prepared race car for a 10-lap trip around the Geary woods.

A number of Sharp Shooter teams will be on hand to lend their cars, expertise and answer any questions for those looking to enter the sport through the entry level division. Safety equipment will be provided for the experience and is open to anyone over the age of 16 (13 to 15 years of age with parental consent form). Drivers must know how to drive a manual transmission car.

The event was one brought to the table by Sharp Shooter Rookie of the Year Scott Kennie. “Bat Hubby” was one of those drivers who watched from the grandstands for many years before building a car over last winter for the 2017 season.

Kennie sees it as a chance to give back to and grow the sport he and his peers have passion for.

“Since it’s Speedway 660’s entry level division, we wanted to get the interest up, car count up and get more people in the cars,” said Kennie on the reasoning behind hosting the event. “In the end means more people at the track, in the stands, sponsors, etc. As drivers, we felt we have just as much responsibility to promote and grow the sport and division as the Track owners – we are all a piece of that equation.

As a group we always talk about ideas to build the division and get more people at the tracks and into cars. SO we’ve committed to this event to get folks into cars, help them by answering questions, telling our stories, providing information on rules, web sites, social media groups, etc. and be there as mentors to help in any way we can to get people into these cars and into racing.”

Bryan Suttie, who has a number of years experience behind the wheel of a Sharp Shooter car, is excited for this event to potentially help build the future of the class.

The Sharp Shooter division is fun, exciting class of racing,” said Suttie. “These little front wheel drive cars are not like any other race car out there. They are a blast to drive but, like any race car, can be a bit challenging.”

Suttie is among the mentors that will be at the event to help out prospective new drivers and teams interested in getting to the track with their own car in 2018.

“It’s going to be a fun experience,” said Suttie of the event on Saturday. “A bunch of great drivers will be there, coaching those about the track, what to expect once out for there 10 laps and give them info on building these cars over the winter.”

The event has even drawn the eyes of drivers in other divisions, including current Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock champion Brent Roy.

“This is a great new event that seems to be getting some traction,” said Roy. “I’m really looking forward to seeing the turnout on Saturday and talking to new potential drivers. The Sharp Shooter division is a great entry level division. I’m excited with what the drivers have put together and look forward to helping out and supporting them on Saturday.”

So far, there has been tremendous support for the inaugural event from everyone at the track.

“We have great support from everyone at Speedway 660,” said Kennie. “The owners, the drivers, tech guys, volunteers – everyone has been positive for doing whatever we can to build the sport and 2018 is going to be a good year. I couldn’t have asked for better response. I’m really looking forward to Saturday and seeing some adrenaline filled faces!”

The event runs from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, October 21st at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick. Complete information can be found via the event page on Facebook.
