DARTMOUTH, NS (September 13th, 2017) – The MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour heads to the North Shore of New Brunswick for Round Four of Six on their inaugural season. The 50-lap event marks the only stop to Speedway Miramichi for the Series and marks the first time in a number of years that a regional touring series will stop at the Douglastown oval. The card also includes racing for the house Mini Stock class and the Atlantic Modifieds, along with a complete card of Demolition action to follow the stock car portion of the show. Green flag will fly on Saturday, September 16th at 5pm.
Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) returned to victory lane during the Gilmet Designs 50 at Petty International Raceway one week ago. His second win in three races will put him atop the point standings by a single point over Speedway 660 winner Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS). Matthew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) is third in the championship battle at the halfway point in the season, sitting just 10 points out of the top spot. Collectively, the trio owns a whopping ten Mini Stock track championships but only one will be able to etch their name into the history books as the inaugural MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour champion.
While Webster and Warren have both made prior starts at Speedway Miramichi, this will be the first start for Matthews at the 1/3-mile oval.
“I’ve never been to Miramichi before, but I’ve heard lots of great things about the track,” said Matthews, who will hope to wrap up his third Thunder car championship at Scotia Speedworld on Friday before Saturday’s MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour race on Saturday. “They tell me it is a driver’s track that you need to conserve your tires at, so I am prepared for that.
My ultimate goal is the championship this year. I’m hoping to be able to come out of Saturday evening with a trophy and in turn we can put on a show for the great fans in Northern New Brunswick.”
Chris Hatcher (Beaver Bank, NS) and Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth, NS) enter fourth and fifth in the championship standings, respectively. MacEachern is coming off a podium finish in the most recent event on the Tour while Hatcher is looking for his first top five finish since the inaugural event at Riverside International Speedway, where he finished in third in the 50-lap feature on the high banked oval.
Neil Miousse (Kentville, NS), who has roots in the Miramichi, will pilot the No. 55 car for Bob Landry (Havre Boucher, NS). Jerome Tracey (Port Hawkesbury, NS) will make the haul from Cape Breton to make his third start on the 2017 campaign.
A number of local drivers, including Michael Savoie and Guy Basque, are expected to pull double duty by taking part in both the Speedway Miramichi Mini Stock and the MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour events. For Savoie and Basque, it will be their first starts with the Tour. Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) will make the haul from Prince Edward Island on Saturday afternoon.
Pit gates open at Speedway Miramichi on Saturday, September 16th open at 2pm for competitors, Kids Rides will take place at 4pm with racing beginning at 5pm. Grandstand admission is $13 for adults, $7 for Youth aged eight to 17 years and free for those aged seven and under. A family pass is offered for $35. Pit admission is $15. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
Please note, the TJ Greenlawn Landscape Construction Dirt Clash at Valley Raceway, originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 6th, has been rescheduled to Sunday, October 8th at 1pm and will now be the fifth of six races on the MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour schedule.
