Jordan Gahan Memorial Award to Showcase Youth Movement in McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250

(FREDERICTON, NB) August 31st, 2017 – The family of the late Jordan Gahan has announced that the “Jordan Gahan Memorial Award” will join the contingency awards for Sunday’s McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250 at Speedway 660. The award will be presented to the top finishing driver under the age of 25 in the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 and will be accompanied by a $500 bonus.
Jordan was one of the young talents that made the leap into a Pro Stock car and was a part of the initial wave of young drivers progressing into the top division at Speedway 660. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in the class in 2010, racked up many heat and dash wins and participated in Maritime Pro Stock Tour events at Speedway 660 in just four short seasons. Gahan passed away suddenly in an industrial accident in Fire Bag, Alberta on March 14th, 2014, at the age of 21.
“Jordan would be 25 in October and we want to honor his memory by presenting this award to a driver racing Sunday in the 250,” said Leica Gahan. “If Jordan was here, we know he would be in this race and we know he will be watching over us during SpeedWeekend.”
A number of drivers currently registered for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250 will be eligible for the award, including 2017 feature winners Dustin Tucker, Ryan Messer and Ashton Tucker. Sarah McKay, Matt Rodgers, Ian Rasmussen, Dylan Blenkhorn and Nicholas Naugle are also among the preregistered drivers for the event under the age of 25 that would be eligible for the award should be the highest finishing driver of the group on Sunday evening. While not registered for the crown jewel event, the youth movement has been seen with the likes of Brandon Skidmore, Ben Pelletier and Braxton Stafford making waves within the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock division on a weekly basis at Speedway 660.
The McLaughlin Roof Trusses Pro Stock 250 is the highlight of SpeedWeekend 2017. Fans will also see racing on Sunday in the Fredericton Mitsubishi 50 for the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters, the DMR Auto Street Stocks with the Atlantic Canadian Association for Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers 50 and the second Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast.
