Maritime League of Legends Set for Island Adventure Saturday

Series Release/Photo by Mike Francis

(SACKVILLE, NB – August 1st, 2017) – The Maritime League of Legends Tour will head to Prince Edward Island on Saturday evening for the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50 at Oyster Bed Speedway. The race is Round Four of Nine on the 2017 season and will serve as the only stop for the Maritime series to Canada’s smallest province for the year. The 50-lap feature is a part of the Lucas Oil 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. Racing begins with qualifying at 6pm on Saturday, August 5th.

Threes have been wild for reigning series champion Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) in 2017. Farrell has a trio of third place finishes in the first three races of the Maritime League of Legends Tour season. The consistency of being on all three podiums of the 2017 season has put him up by 13 points in the championship standings. Farrell will make the second start of his career at the Island oval and will be joined by his brother Will in the field on Saturday for the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50.

Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) finds himself in the thick of the championship chase after three races. The former INEX Eastern Canadian Masters champion is missing a touring division title on his resume and hopes to continue striving towards putting a checkmark in that box. He sits second, 13 points out of the lead position. Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS), the winner of the Atlantic Tiltload 50 at Scotia Speedworld in May, is just three markers shy of Goulden heading into Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday.

Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) has won the last two appearances of the Maritime League of Legends Tour at Oyster Bed Speedway. Hall, the winner at Riverside International Speedway in the Farrell’s Excavating 50, comes off a second place finish two weeks ago at the Cummins 50 presented by Petitcodiac Super Variety at Petty International Raceway. Twenty-one points is the difference between him and Farrell for the championship lead.

Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows, NB) enters Saturday’s Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50 fifth in the standings, a mere two points off Hall. Sherwood scored his first top five run of the season at his home track of Petty International Raceway and enters a track in which he finished fifth at in 2016.

Former series champion Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS), “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan, Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS), Tony Gaudet Jr (Milford Stations, NS) and leading series rookie Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) complete the top ten in the series standings. Langille will cross the Confederation Bridge on Saturday as the most recent winner on the series after taking home the Cummins 50 presented by Petitcodiac Super Variety on July 22nd.

Gary Dunning (Charlottetown, PE) will look to successfully defend his home turf in the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50 on Saturday. Dunning, driving the #33 Red Rock Harley Davidson entry, finished sixth at this event in 2015.

A total of 15 drivers have competed in all three rounds of the series so far, with 35 drivers running in at least one of the three races.

Pit gates open for competitors in the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50 on Saturday, August 5th at 1:30pm; with racing beginning at 6pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Complete venue information for Oyster Bed Speedway can be found on the race track’s website at www.OysterBedSpeedwayPEI.com.
