Oyster Bed Speedway Surf & Turf “I DO” Edition

Byrne Rubber Racing's Kelsey & Cuyler Byrne tied the knot recently and left the church in fine style.

As the IWK 250 casts a long shadow over the rest of the Stock Car racing community for the weekend with Dylan Blenkhorn taking home the big prize at the end of the night the rest of us head back to our weekly track and try to recreate our own big shows.

As your hangover begins to subside from Riverside this Sunday, it’ll be time for us at Oyster Bed Speedway to feature our Fan Appreciation day with $5 general admission, with all local classes featured including another round for the OBS division of the Centennial Auto Sport & Tire Eastern Mini Cup. Racing begins at 2pm.

From a combination of scheduled breaks this season and mother nature misunderstandings the Surf and Turf has had to close the buffet and resort to a lunch menu only. For the lonely folks in the MacCallums Waste Management Late Model Division they have only been out for two runs this season. One has to wonder if our drivers might end up getting a little too anxious out there once the green flag drops and PRACTICE is finally over.

Our teams all better be careful for what they wish for because we now begin a stretch of nine race dates over the next ten weeks. Starts to get rough when you have less than seven days to fix it and get it race ready. Not to mention what four straight weeks of wear and tear and racing does to the car.

Despite the slower start to the season over all a lot has already been accomplished. The creation of a fifth local division, a successful first Maritime Street Stock Showdown, and one of our OBS “Founding Fathers” is being inducted into the Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame. I would have to think that is a pretty good first part of the season.

This weeks Surf goes out to Byrne Rubber Racing’s pair of Street Stock drivers #2 Kelsey Byrne and #22 Cuyler Byrne who recently got married and left the Church in true Stock Car fashion. Be sure to congratulate them if you see them in the pit area. Congrats guys. Best of Luck.

This weeks TURF is the use of a post race live interview to voice your displeasure of another driver is not the place. There is a time and a place for all that and its Facebook. No just kidding. I actually hate it when people get a microphone shoved in their face and they don’t tell how they feel. Keep your comments clean but let people know how you feel. Always nice to see gentleman talking out their problems. If the race meant nothing then we wouldn’t get emotional. All that shows is how much the driver wants it. Very refreshing.
