The TCM Three Stars returns for a second year to TimsCorner.ca. The TCM Three Stars honors three drivers who put up a performance from the weekend previous, on or off the track, that is worth some extra kudos.

This week, we have a trio of drivers that have a couple of things is common. Each of them cut their teeth racing at Scotia Speedworld, each are previous track champions at the 3/10-mile oval and each won their first race of the season in 2017 and first at the track since (at least) 2014.

TCM Three Stars – May 26th, 2017

THIRD STAR

 Shawn Turple of Enfield, Nova Scotia

For the first time since 2014, Shawn Turple was the victim of a victory champagne shower, and as you can see, he was all smiles!

On paper, Turple dominated the Lucas Oil 150 at Scotia Speedworld, leading 130 laps last Saturday to win. It was far from easy though as Turple had to be spot on during restarts in the race which featured 10 cautions and at the end had to hold off a hungry Cole Butcher for the win. Turple ended 2016 with a hot hand overshadowed by Butcher’s championship run, it was only fitting it was Turple and the #0 Dexter Construction Chevrolet team was the one to stopped the win streak at Scotia Speedworld of the reigning champ.

It is hard to believe it is Turple’s first Pro Stock win since the Mike Stevens Memorial in 2014 and first Maritime Pro Stock Tour sanctioned win since Speedway 660 in July of that same year. It is Turple’s 11th career win on the series and sixth at Scotia Speedworld. The two-time series champion also has the point lead heading into Petty International Raceway on June 10th.

SECOND STAR

Adam Meehan of Rawdon Gold Mines, NS

Adam Meehan had two pretty big days at Scotia Speedworld.

Meehan entered his third year of racing Legend cars well prepared and it showed on track as the youngster picked up his first career victory in a Legend at Scotia Speedworld. It also came in the Maritime League of Legends Tour season opening event, the Atlantic Tiltload 50.

He would follow it up the next day with a determined fourth place finish in the Strictly Hydraulics Legend season opener at Scotia Speedworld. Meehan raced behind teammates Paul Goulden and Cory Hall but showed a lot of patience and respect in not forcing the issue that could have wrecked all three cars late in the race.

The two finishes also got the lead in the TCM Power Performer Championship presented by Quinn Flooring. With a driver’s best 12 finishes counting towards the championship standings and two full field top five point totals to his credit, Meehan has established himself as an early favorite in the chase.

The win was Meehan’s first at Scotia Speedworld since September 2014, which came in a Bandolero.

FIRST STAR

Tim Webster of Beaver Bank, NS

Tim Webster has done a lot with his racing career since the last time he’s been to victory lane at Scotia Speedworld.

Webster has won races at the now closed Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway and Petty International Raceway, came close to grabbing the checkered flag at Speedway Miramichi and the CENTRE For Speed and has a track championship on his resume from last year at Petty Raceway.

It has been a busy for years for Webster, but for the first time since July 2013, Webster is back holding the checkered flag at his home track.

Webster finished second in the Toursec Thunder heat and started the feature third. For most of the first 15 laps, Webster was a part of a six pack battling for the top spot which included Dave Matthews, Drew MacEachern, Mark Williams, Chris Hatcher and Nic Baker. Webster was able to wrestle his way to the two-by-two battle and eventually escape with the lead, the win and the traditional dance on the roof of his #86 CARS R US Clearance Centre Honda.

Who knows? We might be talking about him again here next week and he begins his defense of the Mister Transmission Mini Stock title at Petty Raceway this Saturday!
