Naugle Wins Semi Pro Feature, Takes Point Lead on Day Four of #WinterNats17
The 2017 INEX Winter Nationals Semi Pro Legends championship title is likely to come down to two Maritime drivers.
Nicholas Naugle won a time shortened 10-lap main feature in the Semi Pro division on Thursday. Naugle battled early in the race with point leader Cory Hall, who broke an upper control arm after contact in the late laps of the 30-minute event. Hall would rally to eighth at the finish.
Naugle will enter the final day of competition with the point lead by three points over Hall, who won the opening three races of the week. Hall enters with a 31 point lead on Zach Miller and while the point gap can mathematically be made up, both Naugle and Hall will have to have issues to bring Miller and the field into the picture. Waylon Farrell will enter tied for fifth in the standings. Will Farrell was 12th on Thursday and will enter the final day 16th in the week long standings.
Nathan Langille will have a shot at the Bandit INEX Winter Nationals championship on Friday following his fourth consecutive second place finish of the week. He trails Leland Honeyman by six points. Honeyman has won three of the four features in the class at the event. Owen Mahar will enter 11th in the standings after his third straight fourth place finish.
Sam Rogers enters with a mathematical shot at the Outlaw INEX Winter Nationals championship. Rogers finished second in the Thursday feature behind Tommy Good to keep his week long championship hopes alive. Cameron Bolin leads the standings by eight points over Good and 22 points over Rogers. Danny Chisholm’s sixth place finish on Day Four keeps him fourth in the point standings, 17 points behind Rogers. Michael Cormier (4th on Thursday, sixth in points), Josh Langille (13th on Thursday, eighth in points) and Michael Neary (8th on Thursday, 11th in points) complete the Canadian Outlaw competitors.
Dylan Dowe finished second on Thursday and Brooke Dowe was fifth in the Beginner Bandit feature. Brooke Dowe is fourth in the standings with one day remaining while her brother Dylan enters sixth.
Calgary, Alberta’s Ira Laughy finished second in Thursday’s Masters feature to all but solidify at least second in the standings for the week. The 2016 Winter Nationals Masters champion enters the final day of competition 18 points behind Tim Brockhouse, who has won all four races in the class this week. Paul Goulden will enter the final race of the week 16th in the standings after an eighth place run on Thursday.
