Speedway 660 has reclaimed their spot as the Best Weekly Operating Short Track in Atlantic Canada according to fans in the region.

The oval in the Geary, New Brunswick edged out 2015 winner Scotia Speedworld and Oyster Bed Speedway to take back the award they earned in 2014. After losing the award one year ago by 37 votes, the margin of victory in 2016 was even smaller with just 22 votes being the difference between the top two in the Weekly Operating Short Track voting. In fact, Oyster Bed Speedway fell only 70 votes short of taking the top honor for the first time.

Speedway 660 operates from May to September with most races taking place on Saturday nights at 6:30pm. Home to four divisions weekly, including Sharp Shooters, Street Stock, Sportsman and Pro Stock. The track is home to races on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour and Atlantic Modified Tour along with Bandolero racing. They are home of Speedweekend and McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250.

The TCM Fan Favorite Short Track Staple Food also went back to Speedway 660 for a third time in as many years. The delicious, golden and crispy Speedway Fries returned to the top though only by 20 votes over Oyster Bed Speedway’s Popcorn Chicken. Eastbound Park’s Onion Rings and Wedges were third and fourth, respectively, while the Bobby Mac approved Chicken Fingers from Scotia Speedworld finished fifth.

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour held court over the TCM Fan Favorite Short Track Touring Series for a third consecutive year. The series took 40% of the total vote, down by only one percent from 2015. The NAPA Sportsman Series took second place once again and closed the overall gap on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour with 27% of the vote, up from 19% in 2015. The Atlantic Modified Tour leapfrogged over the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour for third in the vote.

The reigning TCM Fan Favorite Touring Series champion saw Cole Butcher hoist the championship for the first time in his career and marks the second straight year the series has a new champion. The racing, which took place at Scotia Speedworld, Riverside Speedway, Petty Raceway, Speedway 660 and Oyster Bed Speedway, was close from flag-to-flag and featured some exciting edge-of-your-seat Pro Stock action through every turn! Not to mention, the addition of Wayne Smith in tech has kept the competition closer than ever and Robert White as Race Director has been a popular addition among those in the pit area. Their schedule runs from May to September.

Fans also gave convincing victories to Petty International Raceway and Riverside International Speedway in their respective categories.

Riverside International Speedway was voted the TCM Fan Favorite Special Events Short Track for the third straight season. The James River, Nova Scotia oval took 34% of the vote, seven percentage points ahead of Thunder Valley Speedway in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland, which returned to the racing scene under the watchful eyes of Brad Melendy in 2016. Speedway Miramichi, CENTRE For Speed and Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway completed the top five in the vote.

The crown jewel of stock car racing in Atlantic Canada. Riverside International Speedway hosts the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour three times a season, including the iconic IWK 250 in July. The NAPA Sportsman Series and Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends are regular visitors to the high banked oval in James River, Nova Scotia. The track is also the only Atlantic Canadian venue for the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and saw the return of Four Cylinder Hondas in 2016. Racing takes place at the track from June to September.

Of the track and series votes, Petty International Raceway is still the only track to garner over 50% of the vote in their category. The high banked River Glade, New Brunswick oval grabbed 54% of the vote in the TCM Fan Favorite Monthly Operating Short Track for their third consecutive victory. Eastbound Park in Avondale, Newfoundland was the primary competition for Petty International Raceway, taking 35% of the vote, with Valley Raceway and Lake Doucette Motor Speedway each receiving less than 5% of the vote.

Located in the shadows of Moncton, New Brunswick, Petty International Raceway has four house divisions – the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros, Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Extreme Windows and Entrance Systems Street Stocks and Sportsman. Petty Raceway also hosts four touring series each season: the Atlantic Modified Tour, Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends and Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. New for 2016, the track launched the Women on Wheels class and continued to build their annual Demolition Derby event from 2015. The track operates race events from May to September.

All tracks and series have received their TCM Award Banner produced by JDR Graphics at their respective banquets except for Speedway 660, who will receive their award on Saturday, January 21st 2017 at their annual Awards Gala in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
