TCM Three Stars + Weekend Agenda – October 13th, 2016

While rain continues to plague season finales, Petty International Raceway successfully got their last race of the 2016 in last weekend.

The action was hot across five divisions as drivers raced for the final checkered flags of the season and while six features were contested, three of those winners have found their way onto the TCM Three Stars from the weekend!

In the TCM Weekend Agenda, two tracks – Speedway Miramichi and Valley Raceway – will try to conclude their year this weekend. Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway was planning on racing this weekend, but the remnants of Hurricane Matthews and the rain it dumped on the Sydney area changed those plans. Cape Breton will hope to get their final races of the season in next weekend to officially close the on-track portion of the season in Atlantic Canada.

Here are the TCM Three Stars for the 21st weekend of 2016!

Third Star

Josh Langille of Coldbrook, NS

Josh Langille reminded us last weekend at Petty International Raceway that while it might be nice to lead the most laps, it is the last lap that is the one that everyone remembers.

The former Canadian Bandit champion shadowed Michael Cormier for most of the 20-lap Bandolero feature at Petty International Raceway before a pair of late restarts bunched up the field. While Cormier was a bit slower to the draw, Langille was lights out on the green flag and while Cormier would mount a charge coming to the checkered flag, Langille would be ahead of the track champion by inches at the stripe to capture the checkered flag in the non-point event.

With his win to close off the Bandolero season in exciting fashion, Josh Langille receives a TCM Three Star for Weekend #21!

Second Star

Kenny MacKenzie Jr of Salisbury, NB

You couldn’t have scripted the Limited Late Model 75 at Petty International Raceway any better for Kenny MacKenzie Jr.

MacKenzie Jr. started out front in the 75-lap feature by virtue of his heat win on September 25th. He led all the laps, was flawless on restarts and kept the field behind him for the complete distance to easily run to the victory at his home track. For MacKenzie Jr., it was his first win in a Late Model car in a first for the track as the Sportsman cars ran on Hoosier 1070 Pro Stock “slick” tires. The race, which served as a make-up for the Mike Stevens Memorial weekend, featured many seasoned veterans that have almost as many (or in some cases more) years in a race car than Jr. has on earth, including his father Kenny Sr., “The Oval Outlaw” Wayne Smith, Oyster Bed Late Model champion Chris Hughes and Randy Millar. Brady Creamer finished second but could not get close enough to the #85 car to pose a threat late in the race.

No doubt this is the first of many wins to come for the Salisbury youngster and Petty International Raceway’s Most Popular Driver. With his second place run in the standings in 2016 to two-time track champion and TCM Power Performer of the Year nominee Luc Bourgeois, Mackenzie Jr has established himself as an early threat for the championship.

For his first Late Model win, Mackenzie Jr is one of the TCM Three Stars of the week!

First Star

Mike Weagle of Salisbury, NB

**Second TCM Three Stars appearance, tenth driver to appear multiple times in feature**

It appeared as if Mike Weagle would not be racing in the final race of the season at Petty International Raceway.

Not only did he race at the end of the day, he drove his car to victory lane.

A fracas behind Mike Edwards blowing a motor in practice left Weagle with heavy front end damage to his #60 Civic. Even before the car was picked up from the flatdeck in the infield, the team was already on their way back to the shop to get “every front end part they could find” to get ready to piece the #60 back together.

While they experimented during the final 12-laps of the Mike Stevens Memorial feature, Weagle was hammer down during the regular race card as he paid tribute to the work his team did to put his car back together.

It may not have been pretty but it was as fast as ever. With missing fenders on the front end, Weagle drove to the final heat and feature of the Mini Stock season at Petty International Raceway, besting Tim Webster and Dave Matthews for the win.

For the “never give up” attitude shown by him and his team, Mike Weagle has scored his second TCM Three Stars appearance of 2016!

WEEKEND AGENDA

The Weekend Agenda takes a bit of a different look this year, but will give you a quick glance at the basics. If a track is racing, you’ll see the track name and location in green and if a track is not running an event on a weekend, their name and location will be red. The line proceeding will display the divisions running on the weekend and a start time, or a date of when the next event is at the track.

Blue indicates a race track has completed or crowned point champions their season for 2016!
