Track Release and Photo
Stock car racing teams and fans will be heading to Speedway 660 this weekend to kick-off the 2016 season. The Riverview Ford Season Opener and Kid’s Day will be held on Sunday at 2PM. On Saturday at 1PM, there will be a pre-season tech inspection and practice session.
“After the inclement weather last weekend everyone is anxious to start racing and we’re looking forward to lots of exciting action this Saturday and Sunday” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “Combining the Riverview Ford Season Opener with Kid’s Day will be extra special because all kids under 15 get in free, plus there will be an autograph session, a candy scramble as well as awesome racing.”
There is always a lot of anticipation surrounding opening day and everyone is invited to come to the pre-race autograph session, in the pits, between 1 and 1:45PM. Racing gets underway at 2PM. The popular candy scramble, for kids 12 and under, will also take place on Sunday during intermission.
“Race fans of all ages will enjoy a pre-race trip to the pits to meet our drivers and see their cars before heading back to the grandstands for an action packed afternoon of racing” said Roy. “There are a lot of veterans and several rookies in each of our four racing divisions, so it will be interesting to see how things shake out on opening weekend.”
On Sunday afternoon fans will see the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters, DMR Auto Sales Street Stocks, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stocks. Adult ticket prices are $14 dollars – and for this week only, all kids 15 and under will be admitted free. Tickets for Saturday’s pre-season tech inspection and practise are $10, with kids seven and under admitted free.
“Everyone enjoys a day at the race track and free Kid’s Day tickets, for everyone under 16, is our way to show appreciation for all of our young race fans” said Roy. “We’ve got lots of kids driving race cars these days and they are attracting a whole new generation of race fans to Speedway 660.”
There is no rain date for this weekend’s events. If the weather is unsettled on Saturday or Sunday mornings, fans and race teams are encouraged to call the Speedway 660 race line at 506-454-7223 or visit www.speedway660.com for race day status updates.
Next Saturday (May 28th) Speedway 660 holds its first night race of the season and then on June 6th fans will be entertained by the first big Pro Stock race of the year. The Best of the Best 150 will see the top two finishers grab guaranteed starting spots in the Irving Blending & Packaging Pro Stock 250 on SpeedWeekend.
“We’ve got a great roster of Pro Stock drivers at Speedway 660 and expect some drivers from the Pro All Star Series and the Maritime Pro Stock Tour to enter the Best of the Best 150” said Roy. “Even though it is scheduled early in the season, it’ll be one of our biggest and most important races of the year.”
Speedway 660 is one of Canada’s premier stock car racing facilities. Located in New Brunswick’s Fredericton region, it attracts race teams and fans from the Maritimes, New England and Quebec.
