Double Take – Naugle Wins Semi Pro Feature on Day Two at INEX Winter Nationals

Nicholas Naugle is on a roll in Orlando.

Naugle, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was the only Atlantic Canadian to land on the podium during Day Two of INEX Winter Nationals. Naugle once again started on the pole of the Semi Pro Legends feature and while he lost the lead in the middle of the race to Tyler Truex, the #88 Brycon Construction driver would eventually work his way back around the #69 for his second victory in as many days.

Cory Hall scored a second consecutive top ten finish with another 10th place run. Hall was collected in a melee on the initial start of the race and was forced to pit, where his Chris Woods Racing and Repair crew made quick work on his #08 S Hall Tire Muffler and Auto Repair Centre car and rallied back when he returned to the race track. Will Farrell fought a vibration early in the day to eventually come home in 15th place.

Both Atlantic Canadian Masters Legends had engine trouble on Day Two. Phil Fowler completed all the laps with a sour sounding power plant to finish 18th place. Gary Bursey felt a vibration in the first lap of the race and was in the infield by Lap Three with a blown motor. The blown motor is expected to end the week for the 72-year old Moncton, NB driver.

Braden Langille started on the pole for the second consecutive day in the Young Lions class, but an early incident with Brody Pope would put Langille to the rear of the field. A rear gear failure would ultimately end the night for Langille, who was credited with a 16th place finish after the second place driver did not report to technical inspection. Waylon Farrell recorded his first top five of the week following post race inspection.

A one lap shootout shuffled the finishing order for the Bandolero Outlaw. Sam Rogers was the highest finishing Atlantic Canadian, coming home in fourth. He led a pack that included Michael Cormier in fifth, Josh Langille in sixth and Nathan Blackburn in eighth. Austin MacDonald spun out in Turn Four after contact with Cormier coming to the white flag lap and could not get the car fired in time before the caution flew. The car refired after the yellow flag came out, which race control deemed as intentionally bringing out the yellow flag, which resulted in a disqualification for MacDonald.

Nathan Langille took home a strong sixth place run in the Bandits division, followed by Owen Mahar who came home in ninth place.

INEX Winter Nationals continues Wednesday with the third of five days of competition.
