Atlantic Modifieds Make Third Miramichi Stop Saturday
(Miramichi, NB) For the 3rd time this season, Speedway Miramichi will once again host the Atlantic Modified Tour in 2015.
Going into the 6th event, Brandon Skidmore is still on top by 14 points over four-time series Champion Mike Raeburn with rookie Justin Beers sitting 51 points back in third. Skidmore has two wins this season in five events. The next few races will ultimately be what makes or breaks a season for one of these drivers.
Speedway Miramichi has always had a local connection to the Atlantic Modified Tour with hometown driver Doug Matchett. Matchett sits 5th in points, but due to missing an event is 121 points back. When the Atlantic Modified Tour rolls into the pit area, “Mr Excitement” will look to park his Towne Auto Center / Jungle Jim’s #75 in Victory Lane for the 3rd time in 6 events.
Nearby Doaktown is well respresented as well with John Lyons, a 2nd year driver in a former Bob Prosser entry. The Robertson Septic / Crandall Engineering #88 had a vicious run-in with the outside wall last month and will look to rebound as he has not had track time since the event. Jason Lyons and the crew have worked exceptionally hard to get the car back together and will be back in action for Saturday night’s events.
The Betts drivers have been dark horse drivers this season. Tom Betts, a former Pro Stock competitor, posted a career best finish in 2015 with a 2nd last weekend at Petty International Raceway. Surely, the local veteran will have success Saturday night at Speedway Miramichi. His nephew, former Enduro driver Drew Betts is in his first year with the Atlantic Modified Tour and has been knocking on the door of a podium finish since his first event earlier in the year at the 1/3rd mile. He’ll be one to watch.
Not to discount other drivers such as Joe Hoyt, Justin Beers, Mark Daye or Ken Deveau, but with a local flair making up a majority of the field for Saturday, they will have to get up on the wheel to contend for a win.
The Atlantic Modified Tour will join Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series and Demo events as part of the 6:00 scheduled show.
