Gaudet Captures MetalCore Season Opener at CFS

Remi Gaudet continued his families winning tradition at Shediac’s CENTRE for Speed this past Saturday.  Remi, the son of multi time track champ Claude Gaudet of Grand Barachois and also a track champ at the regions fastest and largest stock car oval battled other top competitors and sweltering heat to take the first win in the MetalCore Maritime Super Series Sportsman 100 .  The event was split into three segments to help drivers deal with temperatures which were expected to exceed 50 degree centigrade inside the Sportsman class machines during the racing.  Despite the energy saping heat drivers showed why they are some of the best in the region running the 100 laps of feature racing, caution free.  Long time stock car vetran Byron Bartlett of Saint John finished second in his #7 machine and relative newcomer, Cory Collins (#77) of Amherst, NS continued his progress towards his first feature checkered flag at the CENTRE, finishing third.  Other winners on the day included “The Thrill Maker” – Craig Ward of Riverview who won the heat and Byron Bartett of Quispamsis who won the second segment 40 lap segment.  Gaudet won  the first 40 lap segment and the final 20 lap shootout.  “That was an exciting race to be a part of” said Craig Ward.  “Everybody was extremely competitive and any of the competitors could have won this race”.

In Mini Stock its was 2012 class champ, Brad Daley of Moncton continuing his winning ways at the CENTRE taking the feature race in a hard fought battle with Kevin “The Gangster” Capone of Springhill, NS for the first 20 laps when Capone “left the door open” and Daley, then in second, took advantage and the lead.  Rookies Serge Frigault of Saint Charles and Louis Keller of Monton started their racing careers on positive notes taking the other two podium positions in the feature, respectively. Capone took the heat win.

Finally, in Modified action it was Joe Hoyt of Fredericton taking the win in the 40 lap feature while long time racer Larry Gulliver of Saint John took second and former speedway sportsman competitor Mike Raeburn of Hampton, NB took third.   Raeburn also won the heat.  The event featured the largest field of Modifieds to date, this year.

The next event at Shediacs CFS will be the second race in the MetalCore Maritime Super Series of Stock Car Racing featuring the second of three Sportsman 100 events and the return of Legends car racing to the CENTRE for the first time since 2005. Mini Stocks and Street Stocks round out the card on the 27th. Other details are available at centreforspeed.com or by calling 506 866-6387.
