Oyster Bed Speedway Results – July 22nd

By Jeremy MacDonald.

For the second time this season the race card at Oyster Bed Speedway was called early much to the disappointment of many drivers but maybe none more than Matt Palmer. After coming off his first career modified division feature win the previous weekend Palmer once again set himself up to accomplish another first. Palmer was able to drive home to a pair of wins to open his night. In his opening race Palmer was able to take advantage of a front row starting position and pull away. Randy Millar was able to catch up to the rear bumper but was unable to get any further. In his second start of the night Palmer started in the second row and would have to pass cars before he would see some clean air in front of him. As the field spread out after the start Tim Gass pulled out into the early lead. With Gass driving the preferred high line on the track Palmer was forced to attempt the pass on the low side. Lap by lap and side by side Palmer inched his way by Gass and recorded his fourth win in two weekends, setting himself up for a possible triple win until Mother Nature came calling with a downpour prior to the start of the Street Stock Feature. Robbie MacEwen and Kris Fournier were also winners on the night.

This past weekend Alex Sheehan in the Street Stock division finally got the opportunity to take his parade lap and picture in victory lane as he racked up another 2 wins. Sheehan was awarded two wins earlier in the year but that was due to a post race inspection of the cars that finished in front of him and it wasn’t until after the night had concluded that he was informed of the win.  In his second race he did it quite impressively holding off the eight fastest cars in the division including the division leader in wins Mark Leclair who finished second. Leclair was able to add to his win total earlier in the night along with a win for Jamie Stewart.

In the Outlaw division the point’s leader Jamie Stewart extended his lead by securing two wins and a second place finish. One of those wins came in the second round of their Super series twenty five lap feature. Jonathon Kemp opened up with a win and followed it up with a second place finish for another strong performance from a driver who seems to be coming into his own as of late.

In the Four Fun division there was multiple winners on the night’s card. Stealing the show was Adam Perry. He took a heat win and then went on to dominate the feature. Jason Baglole had a win early in the night then followed it up with nothing but bad luck. Once while running in second and once while leading a race he ran into some mechanical trouble and had to limp back into the pit area. Lisa Stewart and Daniel Conohan each had wins with division leader Jeff Gallant securing three top three finishes.
