Oyster Bed Speedway Surf & Turf “Season Finale” Part I
Closing in on the final weekend of racing at Oyster Bed Speedway and still nothing has been decided in the points races in all the divisions. The racing card will get underway at 6PM Saturday night and will conclude with a Late Model 60 lap Feature. Not before three division Titles will be determined as well.
The Street Stock Division has seen some tremendous racing all season long and for the last few weeks we have seen Alex Sheehan, Amanda Wheatley and Nick Chaisson try to drive away from each other but still only 21 points separate them.
Over the last three weekends Sheehan has been nothing but dominate. Over those weekends the driver has scored five wins including the last three features. Despite all the wins, Wheatley only sits a mere five points back thanks to the fact that in each of those three features she finished right behind him in Second.
Chaisson the two time Champion still lurks in the shadows only 21 points back. Sometimes when all the attention is diverted onto a pair of drivers the third one can sneak in behind them. Time will tell, but if what we have saw in this division already this season is any indication we are in for a treat. Despite scoring less wins than his two counterparts his 20 top three finishes ranks right up there.
Division Notes: Looks like Cyler Byrne will take home Rookie of the year honors for Street Stock barring a total catastrophe. The division rookie did not look out of place racing against some of the veterans in the class. Scoring 5 heat wins so far this season and he heads into the final weekend fifth overall in points.
** Editors note below stats does not include the Maritime Street Stock Showdown 100 Lap Feature Win by Chaisson

In what has now become the closest points race of them all the Mini Stock division has three drivers all within 18 points of each other. Defending Champion Mitchell Montgomery will take his points lead into the weekend for one final time trying to hang on for the title. The Tyne Valley native, takes a slim 11 point lead over Jorden LeClair with Jeff Richard rounding out the trio only 18 points back. Richard has been the hottest driver of the three as of late scoring a triple win two weekends ago and last Saturday finishing ahead of both other drivers in all three races.
With all three drivers capable of wins I am sure they will all be in a hurry to move towards the front. Look out for the cars parked in the middle. This will be one hell of a finish for the final night and it will more than likely come down to the last race of the night.
Division Notes: #3 Brandon Forsythe holds a 43 point lead over #59 Jamie Ronaghan for Rookie of the year honors in the division. However, the #59 just barley edged out the #3 for most commonly misspelled last name at the Speedway. Six rookies in total suited up in Mini stock and 22 different Outlaw cars turned laps at OBS this season.
Prior to moving onto Street Stock for the final weekend of racing #4 Shane Bridges locked in the Division lead for Total wins and will be guaranteed at least a share in the lead for Heat wins and Feature wins. At the start of the month of September he was back in 8th in points and fought back to fourth place in points.

Tomorrow in part 2 we will look at the Outlaw Division fight for the Championship which currently has Two Time Champion Kendall Palmer trying to fight off Rookie Devin Gallant and even his own Son Cody Palmer for the Championship. We will also take a closer look at the competitors vying for the Late Model 60 lap feature. Saturday night at 6PM.
