TCM Three Stars + Weekend Agenda – June 30th, 2016

It’s the second holiday weekend of the racing season and seven Atlantic Canadian tracks are taking advantage by running racing cards in the upcoming three days. Before we look ahead to what is running where on the weekend of Canada’s 149th birthday, let’s look back at the sixth weekend of racing throughout Atlantic Canada with the TCM Three Stars.

This week, two first time winners from Scotia Speedworld and one massive performance from a Hobby Stock driver highlight the TCM Three Stars selection.

Here are the TCM Three Stars from Weekend Six of racing action in Atlantic Canada!

Third Star

Matt Moore of Falmouth, NS

Matt Moore has been picking away at victory lane in the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division at Scotia Speedworld for about a year now. Moore, a Legend car standout with a number of feature wins to his credit, moved to the Late Model class in 2015 behind the wheel of the Mitch Blanchard owned car and saw quick success in a limited number of races.

The door finally opened on Friday night and Moore got his first win in the Sportsman class, but it was far from easy.

Moore won his heat race and was looking poised to drive away with his first feature win in the division but was kept honest by Brentley Pirri, who was also looking for his first win in the class. If Moore slipped up, Pirri was on the attack but if Moore was smooth it would be the #1 Pothier Motors/Bunky’s Hants Insulators Dodge that would tack on space between him and the #37.

When the dust was settled, it was Moore holding the checkered flag. Wore out battling to the end, admitting he would have liked to see a 25-lap feature instead of a 38-lap one, Moore was all smiles to finally break through in the top class at Scotia Speedworld.

Matt Moore’s first Late Model win and the battle to get there is worthy of a TCM Three Star selection!

Second Star

Megan Parrott of Beaver Bank, NS

Much like Destiny Enkel’s Street Stock win at Speedway 660 a few weeks ago, Megan Parrott’s Coors Light Truck win at Scotia Speedworld could possibly be the most popular win of the season at her home track.

Social media was abuzz last Friday night when Parrott won her first race at Scotia Speedworld. The Bandolero standout is in her second year in the Coors Light Truck class and while she’s been on the podium in the division, she had not won a feature race until Friday night.

Oh, and by the way, she completely blew the field away to punch her ticket to victory lane.

Parrott led all ten laps in the heat race to win that. Parrott started up front in the feature and led every single one of the 25-laps to win that thing too, besting the Leonard’s Auto brothers in Cory Leonard and Kevin Clark Jr. Textbook definition of domination if you ask us.

Her first win, in dominating fashion, is good enough to seal Parrott a spot on the TCM Three Stars selection for this week.

First Star

Robert Petten of Conception Bay South, NL

The defending champion of the Atlantic Dodge Dealers Hobby Stock class at Eastbound Park is the TCM First Star of the week, but he had to work for it.

Robert Petten was on his way to the front in his heat race last Sunday before slowing coming down the front straight. Petten blew a piston and with little time to get it swapped, the crew went to work to get the #44 back on track. Cody Johnson let Petten use the head, crank and piston from his car for the rebuild and the team got the car back together for the feature just in time. In fact, the Petten team was moments away from missing the green flag as the team was still putting the finishing touches on it as the field rolled to the track for the 25-lap feature.

With track position not on his side, Petten picked off positions on his march to the front of the field. With a couple cautions to aid with bunching up the field, Petten had reached the front to battle with Shayne and Mark Best for the top spot. Robert Petten worked over Best in the closing laps and when the pair hit the stripe on Lap 25, the two were side by side and while the transponders showed Best ahead, it was clear on the replay that Petten had completed the comeback, finished ahead of Best by just over a bumper and won his second race at Eastbound Park on the season.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, Petten’s teammate Lloyd Eason Jr had a clutch let go on his #117 Legend car during his heat race. The team sent a member back to Conception Bay South to grab parts for a clutch and Robert also found time to put that together and get Lloyd out on track for his INEX Asphalt Nationals Qualifier, where he finished second in the extended 50-lap feature.

Hard work paid off for Petten and the entire team on Sunday at Eastbound Park and for his part in the afternoon it is Robert Petten receiving top honors in the TCM Three Stars for the week!
